Dear Dirk:
Bear in mind that to our ingrained mentality here in US, speaking for the
others I hope accurately, this is considered "non-competitive" in our labor
market. The owners are always trying to cut costs and labor is always the
first place they look. But it's an interesting system and very hard to
imagine here. Perhaps it would be better to think of this as a Union activity
with standard wage scales, but here the Unions are practically non-existent
in our trade and extremely weakened everywhere else by Reaganism in the
'80's. We have our work cut out for us if we want to restore some balance to
labor.
