Ya know... the Costco's here started selling this sign (same as
what Sams has) about 2 years ago, and there are ZILLIONS of them in the
suburban strip malls that seem to grow up around my area. I've noticed in
the last 6 months that AT LEAST 15% of these signs are now having
problems, usually the border is flickering, partially lit (like a stuck
scrolling transformer would do), or out altogether. A few don't light
up at all anymore, although this could be caused by rought handling, I
don't know.
Since I'm not doing this as a business (yet), I haven't had
the opportunity, but it's struck me that taking a few pictures of
these, and asking their owners when they purchased them, would make
a great sales tool:
Customer: Why, I can get an OPEN sign for $99 at Costco!
Neon person: Sure, and here are some pictures of what it might
look like in 18 months. If that's all the longer you
want your sign to last, go for it. However, if you
want a (insert number here) year warranty, and
someplace to get it fixed if you break it, let's
talk.
