Frank, there is an archive: FTP to ftp.netcom.com
The archives are in the directory: ~ftp/pub/de/dead The file
solid_state_trans@controls has some great discussion on this topic. Kenny
Greenberg is the guru in this arena. Mabye you can get him to elaborate
some more.
To all:
It's been sort of quiet on the list the past week. I've been tied up on
an installation at a shopping mall that has turned into my job from
hell. "Contractors" must be off the premisis by 10:00am. This means
going out there around 6 each morning and busting butt for 3 1/2 hrs.
It's a new mall, so there are plumbers, electricians, sheet-rockers,
painters, HVAC installers, etc. all tripping over each other. Got to
keep your eye on your tools too... the first words I heard there were
"Damn!!! Someone got my cordless drill!!!" Contractors are also forced
to take specific routes (the long way around, of course).
Definitly not my idea of a good time. The next mall job is going to be
_considerably_ more expensive - if I even consider doing it.

I've got one other thing I'd like to get some feedback on. Have any of
you guys used those glass cups (Absco)? I just purchased a few to
investigate. Great product, but it sure seems there's very little room
for error with respect to dimensions. This is especially true where the
GTO connects to the trode. Most border jobs in this part of the country
have a trans. box mounted outside, and it's akward to connect these cups
directly to flex. I'd like to see plain short-stops and boots made of
pyrex. This doesn't fit into the UL/NEC scheme of "no outdoor exposed
GTO" but it would at least be usefull (unlike that rubber stuff).
