Tecnolux Lead Free is High Octane
I will add my voice to the rave column.
Tecnolux is surprisingly understating the quality of this glass.
I just put some sticks through a variety of my best torture routines.
First I made one of my notorious complex knots. These suckers get twisted
and cranked and hot glass often contacts cold while squeezing the tube thu a
tight spot (Example: http://www.neonshop.com/krypton/neonart.html)
To make it more interesting I decided to work near an open window where a
rather cool breeze was steadily flowing & I hardly annealed. Though the
process itself tends to be self annealing since more & more glass ends up in
the flames, I made up for this by setting the piece down & walking to my
office to swap disks on a 16 disk installation to my pc.
I also generously dropped the work often to see how it bounced.
This glass is exceptionally forgiving. It's a slightly different feel from
lead - I don't think that even a beginner would notice - the clear cuts very
well, though my coated sample didn't seem to cut as well. I imagine that
the baking process might need some tweaking.
Second test, I pulled out my oldest dirtiest plugged up hand torch and
proceded to make one of the clearest splices I've ever made. This feature
alone will blow lead glass off the map.
Third test was a nice 22' radius sweep to see if the glass walks. It simply
doesn't.
So my conclusion is: Thank you Tecnolux for bringing this to the neon market
& I agree, once we become old timers, we will admonish the youngsters as to
how we did clean splices like that, even when there was only lead glass.
