Re: flashback.........thank you
Just a quick note. If any thing a grounding electrode will increase your
flashback problem. In my opinion its only advantage is to protect
instrumentation and heaters . If I had to put one on my manifold it would be
between my main stopcock and diff. pump heater and between my gauge tube and
the stopcock protecting it. I can not see any reason to ground a glass
manifold as it would only attract a flashback. I have seen at other shops
were the ground wire was removed from metal manifolds to reduce the
flashback. This practice is extremely dangerous. All metal parts on any
manifold must be grounded or a serious risk of death will result. I feel that
no contact with the manifold should be made while the bombarder is on. I know
we've all seen old timers turn the stopcock while the bombarder is on but I
also know people who have come close to being electrocuted doing this. I will
not build a system with a bombarder switch close enough so the operator can
make contact with potentially live parts when it's on. This point of
bombarder safety should be discussed more as a shock from the bombarder will
very likely, and has, caused the death of tube benders. David Ablon
