Neon trouble
Here's where I get to take advantage of this rather large group of fellow
tubeheads: Has anyone run into a problem with EGL 8CMC electrodes? We have
had 38 units fail to date, from what appears to be sputtering. They all show
the classic signs of chrome plating around the shell accompanied by darkening
of the glass. All of these units are 15mm clear red from a variety of jobs,
all made in November '95 and all using 8CMC trodes. What's really scary is
there is the possibility of 400 more units dying as you read this.
I know our systems & procedures are correct, as we processed 1300 feet of
coated ruby pumped with neon using 8CC trodes; along with the normal variety
of neonettes & channel letters, both neon & mercury all without incident and
also all in November. In the 8 years of doing neon, this is a first.
We seem to be getting stonewalled as far as tech support is concerned.
Deductive reasoning and elimination of variables, ie, bad pumps, bad gas, bad
proceedures and bad days bring the focus of this problem onto the EGL
8CMC/15mm electrodes. They are a constant in the equation. While i'm not blind
to other answers, any input regarding these specific electrodes would be most
welcome. Thanks in advance,
